Computing in the field..Do you want to work in the exciting world of archaeology? The way archaeology works is changing. Computers are becoming an essential tool for archaeologists, and used for everything from databases, geographic analysis, 3D visualisation, and web publication.

We are looking for people with these skills and more (see our archaeological computing specialists advert for a full list) to join the Wessex Archaeology IT team. You don’t need to be an archaeologist to apply, but a healthy interest in heritage is essential!

Vacancy: Research Assistant (Fixed-Term Contract)

Wessex Archaeology is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to work exclusively on the Landscapes of War Project. The post will involve the conversion of information relating to 20th century military remains in England contained in ‘grey’ literature and publications held at the National Monuments Record Centre, Swindon, into records that will form part of the National Monuments Record.

Vacancy - Terrestrial Geophysicist

We are seeking to expand our established and successful team of geophysicists, with increased emphasis on terrestrial geophysics.

You will be responsible for the acquisition, processing and interpretation of terrestrial geophysical data for commercial archaeological projects throughout the UK. You will be familiar with the operation of terrestrial geophysical equipment and software (Geoplot and ArchaeoSurveyor), and ideally you will have an appropriate post-graduate qualification. Experience with AutoCAD and ArcGIS would be an advantage, though training can be given.

This post is available at Project Supervisor or Project Officer levels dependent on experience.

Vacancy: Finance Assistant

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant to our busy Finance Section.

You must have previously worked in an accounts environment, have experience of purchase and nominal ledgers and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; although previous experience of computerised accounting is desirable it is not essential as training will be given.

You will also be jointly responsible for the day-to-day supervision of a junior member of the team. Starting salary is dependent on the skills, experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
